Clancie & Ethan’s Elopement — Kapalua, HI
Just the Two of Them, Exactly as Planned
July 14, 2026
A vintage Porsche, a rainbow over DT Fleming's Beach, an intimate Hawaiian ceremony at Ironwoods, and two people completely in sync from start to finish.
All photos featured in this post were captured by the incredibly talented Samantha Dahabi — go check out her work.
Clancie and Ethan are the kind of people who know exactly who they are.
They're introverted, outdoorsy, and not remotely interested in a big party.
They cook gluten-free recipes together, explore national parks, and hike Arizona desert trails.
When it came time to plan their wedding, the traditional route never really entered the conversation.
They wanted Maui. They wanted just the two of them.
They wanted something simple, romantic, and completely true to who they are.
And that's exactly what they got.
They met working at IKEA — thrown together by a tight-knit coworker group that spent a lot of time together outside of work. Then COVID happened, a potential exposure brought them into quarantine together, and they basically never separated after that.
The proposal came on an anniversary trip to Capital Reef National Park, just the two of them in an isolated spot — no audience, exactly how Clancie had always hoped it would happen.
The morning
Clancie and Ethan spent their wedding morning exactly the way they spend most mornings — together, unhurried, with coffee. They got ready at their suite at the Royal Lahaina, taking their time, soaking in the fact that today was the day. Ethan stepped out at a certain point so they could share a first look on the lawn — a quiet moment between just the two of them before the rest of the day unfolded.
It set the tone perfectly. Calm, intentional, and completely theirs.
Lani — the 1957 Porsche Speedster
Ethan is a car person. So when the opportunity came to rent a white 1957 Porsche Speedster from Maui Roadster for the day, it wasn't even a question. They named her Lani.
They drove Lani out to DT Fleming's Beach first — windows down, the West Maui coastline opening up in front of them. They walked the beach, took in the views, and then the island did what Maui does: a rainbow appeared over the water. One of those moments you couldn't plan if you tried.
"We are big travel and road trip people — this was an element he was excited about capturing." — Clancie
The ceremony at Ironwoods Beach
From DT Fleming's they made their way to Ironwoods Beach for the ceremony. Pastor Laki Kaahumanu of Maui Aloha Weddings officiated — and brought a conch shell, which he blew as part of the ceremony. Clancie and Ethan didn't know quite what to expect from that moment, but that's the thing about a Hawaiian ceremony — it surprises you in the best way.
Just the two of them, the sound of the ocean, a Hawaiian blessing, and a conch shell echoing across the beach. No chairs, no arch, no crowd. Exactly as planned.
A note on Pastor Laki
Pastor Laki didn't just marry Clancie and Ethan — he wrapped them in aloha from start to finish. After the ceremony he showered them with Hawaiian blessings, thoughtful gifts, and CDs of his own music and performances — a piece of the islands for them to carry home to Arizona. It's the kind of gesture that reminds you how special it is to get married here, by someone who genuinely loves what he does. If you're planning a Hawaiian elopement, he's the real thing.
What they wanted to feel
Blissful. Stress-free. Intimate. Those were Clancie's three words for their day — and from where we were standing, that's precisely what it was.
They'd never had professional photos or content captured before. They trusted us — and photographer Samantha Dahabi — completely, and showed up fully present because of it. Two people who've been inseparable since a COVID quarantine, getting married on a Maui beach with a vintage Porsche, a rainbow, and a conch shell. Hard to top that.
